The Macan Electric’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Model Y doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Macan Electric has standard Porsche Connect, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Model Y doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Macan Electric and the Model Y have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Porsche Macan Electric weighs 538 to 1211 pounds more than the Tesla Model Y. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are better in initial quality than Tesla vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in initial quality. With 12 more problems per 100 vehicles, Tesla is rated below average.

For better traction and acceleration, the Macan Electric has larger standard rear tires than the Model Y (285/45R20 vs. 235/55R18). The Macan Electric’s optional rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the Model Y (295/40R21 vs. 275/35R21).

The Macan Electric’s standard 285/45R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Model Y Standard’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Macan Electric has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Model Y Standard. The Macan Electric’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels on the Model Y Performance.

The Macan Electric has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Macan Electric flat and controlled during cornering. The Model Y’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The front and rear suspension of the Macan Electric uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Model Y, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Macan Electric has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Macan Electric’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Model Y doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The Macan Turbo Electric handles at .98 G’s, while the Model Y Premium AWD pulls only .88 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Macan Turbo Electric executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.8 seconds quicker than the Model Y Premium RWD (23.9 seconds @ .9 average G’s vs. 25.7 seconds @ .77 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Macan Electric Turbo/GTS has a 2.4 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Model Y (8.8 vs. 6.4 inches), allowing the Macan Electric to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Macan Electric’s minimum ground clearance is 2.3 inches higher than on the Model Y Premium AWD (8.9 vs. 6.6 inches).

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the Macan Turbo Electric is quieter than the Model Y Premium AWD (67 vs. 69 dB).

The Macan Electric’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Model Y’s (4409 vs. 3500 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Tesla Model Y is only 3500 pounds. The Macan Electric offers up to a 5512 lbs. towing capacity.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Model Y, the Macan Electric offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Macan Electric offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Model Y doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Macan Electric to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Model Y doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Macan Electric offers an optional rear wiper. The Model Y doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Macan Electric’s standard side window demisters help clear frost or condensation from the side windows in the winter. The Model Y doesn’t even offer side window demisters, so the driver may have to wipe the windows from the outside to gain side vision.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Macan Electric to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Model Y doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Porsche Macan Electric has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the Model Y Premium/Performance.

The Macan Electric offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Model Y.

The Macan Electric is equipped with both FM and AM stereo radios, offering access to more content and better coverage than the Model Y, which solely provides FM radio.
