Safety

To maximize occupant safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Porsche 911 have pretensioners to eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Maserati GranCabrio Foglore doesn’t offer pretensioners.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the 911 helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The GranCabrio Foglore doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The 911’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the GranCabrio Foglore.

Both the 911 and GranCabrio Foglore offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the 911 with Rear Cross Traffic Alert also has Rear Cross Traffic Alert (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The GranCabrio Foglore’s Rear Cross Path doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the 911 and the GranCabrio Foglore have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

Warranty

The 911’s corrosion warranty is 8 years and unlimited miles longer than the GranCabrio Foglore’s (12/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

There are over 83 percent more Porsche dealers than there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the 911’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the 911 second among premium sporty cars in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The GranCabrio Foglore isn’t in the top three in its category.

Engine

The flat cylinder configuration of the boxer engine in the 911 lowers its center of gravity, enhancing handling stability. The GranCabrio Foglore doesn’t offer a boxer engine configuration.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the 911 CCB’s brake rotors are larger than those on the GranCabrio Foglore:

911 CCB

Front Rotors

16.5 inches

15 inches

Rear Rotors

16.1 inches

13.8 inches

The 911 offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The GranCabrio Foglore doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the 911 GT3 RS’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the GranCabrio Foglore (F:275/30R20 & R:335/30R21 vs. F:265/30R20 & R:295/30R21).

Suspension and Handling

The 911 (except Base/GT3) offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The GranCabrio Foglore doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

For better maneuverability, the 911 GT3’s turning circle is 6.6 feet tighter than the GranCabrio Foglore’s (34.1 feet vs. 40.7 feet). The 911’s turning circle is 4 feet tighter than the GranCabrio Foglore’s (36.7 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

Chassis

The Porsche 911 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1300 to 2100 pounds less than the Maserati GranCabrio Foglore.

The 911 is 1 foot, 5 inches shorter than the GranCabrio Foglore, making the 911 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

The 911 Cabriolet has a larger trunk with its top down than the GranCabrio Foglore with its top down (4.8 vs. 4 cubic feet). The 911 Cabriolet has a much larger trunk with its top up than the GranCabrio Foglore with its top up (10.4 vs. 5.3 cubic feet).

The 911’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The GranCabrio Foglore doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

Ergonomics

The 911’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The GranCabrio Foglore doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The 911 (except Manual/GT3)’s optional Active Parking Support can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Optional Remote ParkAssist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The GranCabrio Foglore doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The Porsche 911 comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Maserati GranCabrio Foglore isn’t available as a coupe.

The 911 is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The GranCabrio Foglore doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
