A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW 7 Series doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Taycan helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The 7 Series doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Taycan and the 7 Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in initial quality. With 25 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is rated lower.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in long-term dependability. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, BMW is rated lower.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than BMW vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Porsche 1 place higher in reliability than BMW.

The Taycan has more powerful engines than the 7 Series:

The Taycan can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 206 to 246 miles, up to 10% further than the 750e‘s -mile range on a full charge and a full tank of fuel. The 750e has to start its internal combustion engine after only 35 miles.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Porsche Taycan higher (10 out of 10) than the BMW 7 Series (5 to 7). This means the Taycan produces up to 19.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 7 Series every 15,000 miles.

For better stopping power the Taycan Turbo S’ brake rotors are larger than those on the 7 Series:

The Taycan offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The 7 Series doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Taycan stops much shorter than the 7 Series:

For better traction, the Taycan’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 7 Series (F:265/35R21 & R:305/30R21 vs. F:255/45R20 & R:285/40R20).

The Taycan’s optional 265/35R21 front and 305/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 7 Series’ optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Taycan is 1.5 inches wider in the front and 1.2 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the 7 Series.

The Taycan 4S handles at 1.03 G’s, while the 740i pulls only .86 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Taycan Turbo S executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.5 seconds quicker than the 760i xDrive (23.6 seconds @ .87 average G’s vs. 26.1 seconds @ .73 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Taycan w/Rear Axle Steering’s turning circle is 3 feet tighter than the 7 Series’ (36.7 feet vs. 39.7 feet). The Taycan Cross Turismo’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the 7 Series xDrive’s (39.4 feet vs. 40.4 feet).

The Taycan is 1 foot, 4.8 inches shorter than the 7 Series, making the Taycan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Taycan Turbo S is quieter than the 760i xDrive:

The Taycan’s available rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The 7 Series doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than BMW. J.D. Power ranks Porsche third in service department satisfaction. With a 13% lower rating, BMW is ranked 7th.

The Porsche Taycan comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the BMW 7 Series isn’t available as a station wagon.
